ACI explores private-public funding for effective airport management (10/28/2009 4:12:00 AM)
Airports Council International (ACI) has said that it is exploring ways to improve, maintain and modernise airports by utilising private sector funding with effective government regulation for safe and efficient airports in Africa.

This was disclosed by the Secretary-General of ACI Africa Region, Mr. Ali Tounsi, who visited Nigeria to inspect the level of preparations for the hosting of ACI Regional Conference by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in September 2010.

Addressing newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at the weekend, Tounsi said that about five billion passengers travel by air every year.

?The conference will hold in Zimbabwe this year and it is focusing on PPP in Africa. We need money from private investors to upgrade and expand our airports, therefore privatization, concession and PPP remain a better option for us,? Tounsi said.
